There's no doubt that Hyundai/Kia has some quality control problems with the DCTs. But I'm looking for something more when vehicle shopping, so I lean more to Car & Driver, MotorTrend, etc. If I'm shopping for a refrigerator or washer/dryer - I have no problem relying on CR. I think using CR for car reviews is great for anybody that sees their vehicle as an appliance - a way to get from point A to point B. My father-in-law loves CR and is basically his only data point for car shopping. Not only do true failures count against the score, but consumer complaints about the infotainment being too difficult or the car shifting not feeling right (many experiencing a DCT for the first time without understanding why it feels different when crawling through a parking lot probably account for some negativity on the CR transmission rating as well). I think it's an error, but maybe there's something more.Ĭonsumer Reports is always controversial when it comes to car ratings because they take a look at things from a reliability and how consumers respond to products. Upgrade the onboard charger, add a heat pump, scrap the spare tire for a repair kit and up the battery size accordingly, some sort of sound/ding to indicate highway drive assist is disengaging/engaging, bench as an option for 2nd row on phev and hybrid!Ĭlick to expand.I've never heard of this and Google doesn't seem to reveal anything after a 2-sec search. Now if they want to rail the sorento here’s what I would suggest as complaints….(Kia I hope your listening haha) Plus there’s a warranty on the drive train. On the reliability front there’s been some issues with the 8speed dct for sure but I haven’t heard much about the phev beside coolant error. They also put the headlights as 3/5 and I’m not sure if they are different in the hybrid vs phev but I would say the phev headlights are very good and for reference 3 of the last 4 cars I’ve owned were Teslas. Considering the only areas that are rated poor on the hybrid trim are predicted reliability and third row seats I have no idea how the score is so low lol. I love CR but I find their review comical. So as a recent phev buyer here’s my 2 cents…
